Same-Day Tooth Extraction in Las Vegas: What to Expect
If a tooth is badly broken, abscessed, or beyond repair, you may be wondering whether it can come out the same day. At Urgent Dental in Las Vegas, many extractions can be completed during a weekday visit after an exam and X-rays — when it is clinically appropriate and the office has capacity. Call (702) 228-1106 during Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM so the team can guide you. Walk-ins are welcome while the office is open, and Urgent Dental provides same-day care during office hours.
When is a same-day extraction realistic?
Same-day removal is most often possible when:
- The tooth is clearly unrestorable (severe decay, fracture, or failed restoration)
- There is an infection or abscess and extraction is the recommended path after evaluation
- You are generally healthy enough for local anesthesia (or your medical history has been reviewed)
- Imaging shows the roots and nearby structures are safe to approach in a standard visit
- You can stay for the procedure and leave with clear aftercare instructions
Complex surgical cases, difficult impactions, or medical red flags may need a different schedule or an outside referral. The dentist decides after seeing you — not from a phone description alone. Learn more about dental extractions and wisdom teeth removal.
What happens when you arrive?
- Check-in and history. Share medications, allergies, and any swelling, fever, or bleeding.
- Exam and X-rays. These show the tooth’s shape, bone, and nearby nerves or sinuses.
- Treatment discussion. The dentist explains whether extraction is advised, what alternatives exist (when any), and what sedation options may be available if you are anxious.
- Anesthesia. Local anesthetic numbs the area. Oral sedative, IV sedation, or nitrous oxide may be discussed when appropriate.
- Removal. The tooth is gently lifted from the socket. Some cases need a small surgical approach if roots are curved or the tooth is broken.
- Aftercare. You leave with gauze instructions, activity limits, and guidance on pain control, diet, and warning signs.
How should I prepare?
- Eat a light meal before your visit unless you were told to fast for sedation
- Bring a list of medications and your insurance card if you have one
- Arrange a ride if you may receive sedation that impairs driving
- Wear comfortable clothes and plan a quiet evening afterward
- Call ahead when possible at (702) 228-1106 so the office can prepare walk-ins are still welcome during open hours
What about aftercare and dry socket?
Expect mild to moderate soreness for a few days. Bite on gauze as directed, avoid smoking and straws, stick to soft foods, and do not poke the site. Call the office if bleeding will not slow, swelling worsens after day two, you develop a fever, or pain spikes several days later (a possible dry-socket pattern). Prompt follow-up protects healing.
Does insurance cover extractions?
Many PPO plans help with medically necessary extractions; coverage varies by plan, waiting periods, and whether the tooth is surgical. Urgent Dental accepts most PPO dental insurance and does not accept HMO or Medicaid. Financing options such as CareCredit and Cherry may be available. Bring your card and ask at check-in what your plan typically allows — the team can help you understand next steps without inventing a dollar amount.
