Bleeding

Bleeding can be a serious problem and if severe you should seek medical attention from your doctor/dentist or go to the emergency room. Bleeding following dental treatment can occur and should be closely monitored. Blood can mix with saliva and appear to be more serious than it really is, however, it should not form liver looking blood clots and if this occurs intervention may be necessary.

Firm, direct pressure can be applied to the wound to stop the bleeding and once the bleeding has subsided or is minimal it is best to remove the gauze because continued use of the packing can provoke continued bleeding. Sutures or packing can be placed by your dentist to help stop the bleeding.

It is important to inform your doctor of any blood thinning medication or aspirin-like medication you are taking because they can increase your risk of bleeding.
